John
Gould
1913 - 1999
This bronze of John Gould has been commissioned by The Newbury Society to commemorate his life and work. His knowledge and enthusiasm for everything connected with the Kennet and Avon Canal was largely responsible for preventing closing of the Canal in 1956. It is hoped that the bronze will be permanently housed in Newbury's new Library. The sculpture is by Paul Bainbridge.
(Update Summer 2000: The bronze is now in Newbury Library on the 1st floor.)
